Reach Out is
a ministry that partners with Federal Way churches, service and
civic organizations and community volunteers to provide shelter
and support services to help homeless men in Federal Way move
toward self-sufficiency. This ministry is now entering its
fourth year, and Calvary is pleased to be a part of it. Check
out the website for
Reach
Out.
The men are sheltered in “host” churches.
Reach Out, a local Federal Way program, recently joined up with
Catholic Community Services of King County to better help area
homeless.

Reach Out Report— January 2012
A great big thank you to all who have helped make the Reach Out
shelter a success. By the end of our 4th January sheltering men
from the cold, we will have prepared 750 sandwiches, packed 750
lunches and served hot dinners on 28 nights (We had one “snow
night” when the men went to New Hope since our power was out.)
This all took a huge effort by many people:
Here are some statistics on our helpers:
-
Meal preparers - over 100
-
Lunch Packers - included Learning in
Motion, Tues. Bible Study and a couple of families
-
Sandwich preparers - 2
-
Shoppers - 4
-
On Site Supervisors - 16 and they
will continue on through February
-
Prayer warriors - too many to count
Thanks to your generosity we bought:
-
56 gallons of milk
-
51 gallons of juice
-
10 cans of coffee
-
2,000 cups
-
salad dressings
-
paper products
-
enough meat, cheese, margarine for
750 sandwiches (bread was gleaned from Great Harvest)
-
enough nutrition bars, juice
packets, fruit, pudding (or cookies) and chips plus bags,
napkins and spoons for 750 lunches
-
enough toothbrushes, toothpaste,
shave cream, razors, soap, and warm socks to put together 40
packets to be given to the men
Every night the meal team received a “THANK YOU” for the hot
meal provided. We will continue providing shelter through
February while other groups take on the task of feeding these
hungry men. Without the support of the whole congregation it
could not have happened.
