Women Enjoy Retreat
On April 30-May 1 twenty-six women
from Calvary enjoyed a retreat. We explored the friendships of
women, in the Bible and in our lives.

for our group to experience it.
Calvary
Women Take Action
At the spring retreat, several Calvary women studied about
biblical women who exhibited twelve qualities of women's
friendships. Maybe you saw their portraits hanging in the Social
Hall during May.
As part of our retreat, we decorated boxes which the women are
using to save change in order to make our offerings available in
the form of micro-loans to extend our hands in Christian
friendship to women living in poverty in the global community.
Our goal is to fund a number of these micro-loans through an
agency or agencies who make the loans available.
Thousands of women have borrowed as little as $25 to begin
businesses that lift them and their families up to stable and
sustainable standards of living, making it possible to feed,
clothe and educate themselves and their children, thereby
creating a healthier and more peaceful world. They have a
remarkable record of repaying these loans in full and on time.
The money is then made available to other women.
On Saturday, September 11, at 10:00 A.M. in Learning Center #1.
We will re-gather to count our money and decide how to spend it;
i.e., which agency or agencies we will use to distribute our
offering.
All women of Calvary are invited to join those of us who were on
the retreat in this effort. Choose a container and start saving
your change. Mark your calendar now to come on September 11, add
your contributions, help count the money and participate in the
decision as to how we will make it available to our sisters
around the world who need only a little help from us. Our
dollars can empower women to do what women everywhere can do so
well, work hard to create the best possible quality of life for
their families.
Nursery Substitute
Would you be willing to occasionally serve as a substitute
caregiver in Calvary’s nursery on Sunday mornings? Contact the
church office.
Calvary Care Connection One
of the functions of the Calvary Care Connection is to make
personal connections between those with a need and finding help
on a short-term basis. It may be a home maintenance task, a meal
for someone following illness or surgery, transportation, or
making a phone call to check on someone. If you would like to
serve others, this team would love your help. Our next meeting
is August 12 at 10:30 a.m. in the Social Hall.
Discovering My Gifts
You have an opportunity to discover the specific

Memorial/Funeral Reception Team
The Memorial/Funeral Reception Team are asking members of
Calvary to participate in their ministry. They provide food
(cookies, bars, sweet breads, open-faced sandwiches, etc.) for
receptions following memorial services.
They keep a roster of people who are willing to help
with these receptions on an occasional basis, when called.
Here are some ways you can help:
If you would like to serve on the
Memorial/Funeral Reception Team, contact the
church office.
Prayer
Chain
You are invited to participate in

Prayer Shawl Ministry
We are a group who lovingly knit or
crochet shawls for those in need of God’s love and comfort in
difficult times as well as times of celebration.
If you have a person on your heart and mind that you feel needs
to be surrounded with God’s peace and love woven into a prayer
shawl, please contact Deanna Kaasa through the
church office.
Our next meeting will be in
September.

Making Sense of Scripture: Big Questions about the Book of Faith
The Book of Faith initiative invites the whole church to

of Scripture, in order that we might live into our calling as a
people renewed, enlivened, empowered, and sent by the Word. This
is an initiative of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
