Musical Groups at Calvary
Calvary Bell Choir
Calvary has a bell choir which adds to our worship service
monthly. We practice each Thursday night at 6:00 p.m. and
play in worship on the 4th Sunday each month during the school
year. Dr.
Jim Brown leads the Bell Choir. We welcome experienced and
novice ringers, and would love to have you come and join us. We
are on a break for the summer and will resume rehearsals on
August 26th.
Calvary
Choir
Calvary’s choir participates in worship at our 8:30 and
11:00 services in our lovely sanctuary. Whether singing from our
loft or at the front of the church, the choir adds an uplifting
musical component to worship at Calvary.
Dr. Jim Brown
leads the Calvary Choir. If you would like to give the choir a
try, come to rehearsal on Thursday nights at 7:15. In addition
to a great musical experience, you will find new friends and
fellowship! We are on a break for the summer and will
resume rehearsals on August 26th. We sing in worship on August
29th.
Deeper Life Band
Our
Deeper Life Band provides music for our Deeper Life worship at
11:00 a.m. on Sundays. It is a group diverse in age and musical
experience, and also rich in spirit and fun. We practice on
Monday nights at 6:30 p.m. We play throughout the year, summer
included. If you are interested in joining our
group, contact the church office or email Tony Willing, our
director at
tony@calvary-elca.org. We provide music all year.

and Mexican/American composer Riccardo Zohn-Muldoon's Comala at

(Evangelist).

title role in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo (Stony Brook), Boston for
three Fringe Concerts at the 2007 Boston Early Music Festival,
Seattle for Cavalieri’s Rappresentatione di Anima e di Corpo

Bell Choir Gets New Bells
On Sunday, February 14, we dedicated
our new set of bells...a 5th Octave! This set has 7 really large
"low" sounding bells and several really small "high" ones.

We Love Our Musicians On behalf of the Worship & Music
Team and the entire congregation, I would like to acknowledge
the commitment and dedication of all our musicians. Each person
involved gives of their time and their talent to enhance our
worship.
Our Bell Choir practices weekly for an hour, and they play two
services once a month. They arrive early to set up and be ready
to play at 7:45 A.M. and stay through 11:30 to play for the
11:00 service.
Calvary Choir rehearses at least an hour and one-half per week
and is in place 45 minutes before each time they sing to warm up
their voices and be ready for service. On festival Sundays choir
sings both services.
Deeper Life Band practices every week and finds new music to
keep the worship fresh. They have a lot of set up and take down
of equipment and they do this year-round.
Tony Willing is integral to all three worship services of course
and is shifting gears rapidly to keep the pace of Sunday
morning. He spends many hours in private rehearsal to make sure
he is ready to not only lead the hymns, but accompany the voices
with a wide variety of challenging music.
Jim Brown leads our choirs with energy, caring and patience.
Each rehearsal is a teaching session and a sharing of his
commitment to sacred music and his Christian faith. Our choirs
and the music they provide are enriched by his enthusiasm and
joy.
Glenn Sawyer goes about his work quietly with purpose. Not only
does he make sure everyone is mic’d up for service, but that he
has recording microphones in place. This means coming to choir
dress rehearsal at Christmas and Easter to make sure he gets the
best sound. At 7:30 on Easter morning Glenn approached choir
director Jim with his first “gold record”, a masterful recording
of the “Seven Last Words” that we had sung just two nights
previous! Each choir member was handed a copy as well.
Thanks to each of you who shared your musical talents this year,
we truly appreciate your hours of preparation and willingness to
provide such a rich assortment of worship music. And thanks
again to our leaders who create an environment of love and
passion for our music ministry.
Marj Hause
