COMMUNITY OF LAY MINISTERS
Our SWW Synod periodically offers two-year training programs
designed to enhance the ministry of lay people who are already
serving their congregations in effective ways. These are people
who have specific skills that are useful to the church and a
strong commitment to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The goal is
provide a solid background in biblical studies, Lutheran
confessions, church history and practical theology. Upon
satisfactory completion of the program, participants are
certified by the Bishop, become part of the Community of Lay
Ministers, and are eligible to be commissioned to serve in their
congregations or in a special setting. The Community of Lay
Ministers is now actively organizing the Olympia Study group.
The CLM Mentor will be Marcia Riggers of the Lutheran Church of
the Good Shepherd in Olympia. She will convene the group and be
the general coordinator of this study group. She was the FIRST
to be commissioned in this program about 20 years ago, and has
been a leading lay minister in our synod. She chairs the Synod
Leadership Board.
The CLM Pastor Mentor will be the Rev. Linda Nou. Pastor Nou
will be the spiritual guide and companion throughout the two
years. Pastor Nou is a pastor with a wealth of experience as a
professional lay worker and ordained pastor. She is also a
Spiritual Director, Intentional Interim Pastor and is currently
finishing her credentials as a Mediator. Other pastors and lay
leaders will be engaged as instructors as soon as the calendar
is set.
It is now important for everyone interested to make a decision
about their participation, acquire the application materials
from Allison in the synod office (253-535-8300), secure the
support of your pastor and church council, and return the
completed forms to the SYNOD OFFICE as soon as possible.
NOW!! For those who may want to refer people into this fantastic
lay ministry opportunity, then please forward this information
to those you know are interested in your congregation, etc. The
time for encouragement is now!
If you would like to speak directly to Marcia Riggers, CLM,
