Making the Most of My Child’s Worship Experience at Calvary
Children’s Sermon During both worship services, children
will be presented with the traditional five minute children’s
sermon based on the lectionary text of the day (usually a Gospel
story.) This may serve as a discussion tool for your drive home.
(“What did you learn in church today?”)
Children’s Bulletin As your family enters worship, you
are also encouraged to pick up a copy of the children’s bulletin
and a set of pencils or crayons. These bulletins, called
Celebrate, help your child connect to the message of the day.
They could be read and colored during the adult sermon and/or
taken home to provide further discussion and learning.
Come Hear Our Fabulous
Organ

Our organ is enjoyed at the
9:00 a.m. service each Sunday. Tony Willing invites kids,
grandkids, or even adults who would like a glimpse of the
inner works of it, which he describes as akin to
“Inspector Gadget.” Any Sunday following the 9:00 a.m.
service, find Tony and ask him for a tour.
Worship Assistants

Look around church. We have Ushers, Communion Assistants,
Greeters, Readers, Acolytes, and Assisting Ministers. Are
any of these things that you could do? We will train you
and support you fully in this ministry. Please contact the
church office or speak to Kimberly Fernandez at church.
Prepare Altar for Worship
We are looking for a few
people to help our Altar Guild prepare for weekly
communion. This is very important work for the
congregation currently performed by only 9 people. Duties
include setting up the altar in the Sanctuary and Great
Room, baking the communion bread, washing glasses and
linens as needed. If we have a full compliment of team
members, we serve with a partner for only 2 weekends out
of each quarter. The work isn’t complicated, and
instructions are provided. Please pray about making a
commitment to this important work. Contact
the
church office.
Serve as an Usher
Your gifts and willingness to serve are needed. We
need ushers for either of our two services. Training will be provided.
Contact the
church office.
Wash Robes
Altar Guild is looking for people who
love to wash and iron! We have several acolyte robes and
assisting minister robes that need laundering on a regular
basis. The robes are permanent press, so they only need a
touch up with an iron. Contact
Marshia Nicholson.
Prepare Yourself For
Sunday Worship
Online resource with study
questions and commentary for this Sunday's scriptures can
be found online at
Lutheran Bible Ministries.
Run the Soundboard
Glenn Sawyer
is looking for someone to run the soundboard for worship
occasionally. He has an efficient system in place and will
be happy to train someone on running it. Contact
Glenn
if you are interested.
Altar Flowers
If you would like to
donate altar flowers, sign up on the chart in lobby and
purchase and bring the flowers on Sunday morning. It will
be your responsibility to purchase the flowers, set them
on the altar, and remove them after the service.
About Holy Communion at
Calvary
All who believe that Christ is
present in the bread and wine are welcome to commune at
Calvary.
Bake
Holy Communion Bread For Calvary Lutheran Church
Is baking your gift? You can share it by providing
home-baked bread for Holy Communion. Marshia Nicholson has
given us the recipe:
Please follow this recipe exactly. It makes loaves that
are easy to use for distribution, without the distraction
of crumbly bread or thick loaves.
Ingredients:
1 - 1/2 c. whole wheat flour
1/2 c. white flour
pinch of salt
1/4 tsp baking soda
2 T. oil
2 T. honey
1 T. molasses (or add one more T. of honey)
1/2 to 3/4 c. cold water
1. Mix dry ingredients.
2. Cut in oil, then add honey, molasses, and water. The
texture of the dough should be like biscuit dough.
3. Knead slightly until dough is elastic (similar to
biscuits).
4. Roll dough out to 1/4 inch thick.
5. Cut into circles approx. 5 inches across. Use a small
mixing bowl or cereal bowl to cut the circles, or a 3-cup
Rubbermaid storage container (it’s about 5 inches across
the opening) is a perfect size.
6. Slice a simple cross with a sharp knife, from one edge
to the other.
7. Bake @ 350° for 10-12 min. Makes 4-5 loaves.
Please contact
Marshia Nicholson if you would like to provide
communion bread.
Provide Sunday Morning Hospitality
You can help prepare and
serve coffee and other refreshments before and after
services on Sunday mornings. Your help is also needed with
clean up. You may serve alone or in pairs on a rotating
basis. Contact the
church office.
