Lessons
from Geese
Team allegory
The flight of geese in a V-formation is beautiful. But
it also has some remarkable lessons that we can learn
from the flight pattern that have significance of
belonging, success, support, teamwork, and power of
affirmation.
As each goose flaps its wings, it creates an uplift for
others behind it. There is 71 percent more flying range
in V-formation than in flying alone.
People who share a common direction and sense of purpose
can get there more quickly.
Whenever a goose flies out of formation it feels drag
and tries to get back into position.
2) It’s harder to do something alone than together.
When the lead goose gets tired, it rotates back into
formation and another goose flies at the head.
3) Shared leadership and interdependence give us each a
chance to lead as well as an opportunity to rest.
The geese flying in the rear of the formation honk to
encourage those up front to keep up their speed.
4) Encouragement is motivating. We need to make sure our
“honking” is encouraging – and not discouraging.
When a goose gets sick or wounded and falls, two geese
fall out and stay with it until it revives or dies. Then
they catch up or join another flock.
5) We may all need help from time to time. We should
stand by one another in difficult times.

Special Celebration

For congregation & community
VBS 2010 Together!
As God wants a relationship with us, we seek that as well. For
our Vacation Bible School week we will learn and experience
what it is to belong to God and to embrace that love and
grace --- all of us -- together.
Our theme text is Micah 6:8: "What does God require of us:
that we act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with our
Lord." Each day we use a parable to illustrate how Jesus
helped the people understand what it is to "act justly," to
"love mercy," and to "walk humbly with God." Children will
have or tell their current stories relating these values and
attitudes to their lives today.
Our belonging to God will be celebrated as a spirited team. .
God's team. Our team mascot is Wild Geese. This is very
intentional as geese model wonderful behaviors. (see "Lessons
From Geese") We will practice encouraging one another as we
work toward common goals using our unique God-given gifts. We
share leadership and help one another on God's team. Our team
will be cheering each other on in our spirit-filled lives --
together.
The adults and youth that make up our staff team will again be
incredible! Their faith shines through; their enthusiasm in
life and love of children make this week special for the
students in our church AND in the community of Federal Way.
They make the positive difference -- together.
We welcome your prayers, your passing this information to
children in the community and your support in whatever gifts
you can share. We will soon be inviting you to help provide a
Bible for our new participants. Watch for more information.
We are going to have a Bible based, fun, spirited experience
TOGETHER!
Faith Education
Learning in Motion, Calvary’s Sunday School, is on summer
vacation now, but the Faith Education Team is busy at work.
They are working on a yearly plan for the faith education of
our children and youth, in addition to planning for all ages.
One of their goals is to include different learning styles and
venues in Calvary’s faith education.
Youth Ministry If you
have a passion for the faith formation of our youth and would
like to be involved in youth ministry, please contact
